Potty training

Wondering if I made a mistake

I have been potty training my 2 and a half year old for the last few weeks. Rewarding with stickers and praise.

Lots of days he doesn't have any accidents and then sometimes he will have a couple in a day. He is often dry during naps and he's been dry overnight several times.

He will sometimes tell me he needs to go and sometimes I just ask him to sit and he does a wee or poo. Sometimes he refuses! I try to trust him and go with what he's telling me.

He had an accident with his childminder today and she said perhaps he's just not ready.

Would you stop in this situation and try again in a few months? Don't want to damage his confidence.

Sorry for the essay. Any advice would be great, thank you.

No I wouldn’t stop he’s doing great!! If there was no interest and accidents were happening all the time I would. Sounds like your way of doing it was spot on!

Please don't stop!
I will eventually Click!
Try reading the "oh Crap" book, or just google the Cheat sheet!
I'm not one for Books but it worked really well with my DS (was 2&3 months)
Basically first week, naked from waist down so you can pick up little traits they do when they need to go, so can put them on the Potty, step 2, commando with dress/trousers on (pants make them feel like they are wearing a Nappy) then step 3 is wearing pants and trousers, it sounds a strange way of doing it but my Son has clicked within 2 days it was fab!
You will have good and bad days, but you will get there, the Both of you. It's a hard time, but promise you'll get there! Thanks

When I say Clicked, he started noticing when he needed to go, he wasn't by all means dry and not having accidents in the Meantime!

I think that it is inevitable that there will be good and bad days, the accidents will still happen occasionally for quite some time, and it will be many years before you can totally stop micro managing when he goes and where. Being with a different care giver or in a different place are definitely more likely to produce an accident. Childminders should be following your lead and helping you maintain the momentum. Keep going!

Oh thank you both that's really reassuring. I felt really bad that I'd made him do it when he wasn't ready but I guess they're all different and get there in the end! I think he is much better when he's bare bummed now you say that so perhaps doing it in a routine like you suggest would be good. Thank you again x
