Hello, I've a DS who is 2.3 and we have started potty training this week, he will sit on a potty for a long time however he will not pee/poo in it at all, I think he's holding in the poo but is peeing everywhere, I don't think he is aware of when it's coming and I think that's the problem. Is this a sign he's not ready yet? I'm also 33 weeks pregnant so maybe I'm expecting a bit more in the first week than I should.

We've been potty training for 5 weeks and had 1 poo on toilet!

Honestly I would give up and try again in 6 months. It doesn't sound like he's ready. Having potty trained DC1 before she was ready and DC2 when she was ready (a million times easier) I am in favour of waiting until they get it quite easily.

Thanks for your replies!

It's so hard isn't it? I've cleaned four pees off the floor and it wasn't even 11am! The baby is due at the end of November I'm wondering about leaving it till after Christmas? I just don't think he has an awareness of when he needs to go, he also gets quite upset when he goes on the floor

Yes you don't want him to get negative associations and you realllly don't want to get into poo withholding as that can be a very hard vicious cycle to break. No harm in leaving it till things have settled down with the new baby. Nappies are so good these days there isn't really any hurry, 2.3 is still very little.

Thanks @minipie it sounds so stupid but I never realised how much time it takes up of your day, your mind becomes obsessed with it
