Son refuses to poo on a potty!

My son is 2 and a half, he's been weeping on the potty for over a week now, rarely has an accident even when we've been out. However he refuses to poo on a potty...I've tried bribery, playing games to keep him sitting on the potty and just tried to talk to him about it but had no luck! He'll pull his pants down and poo on the carpet or he'll poo in his pants and then tell us straight away to clean him up! Getting very frustrating especially as he seems to have got weeping down straight away!

He's two and a half. Can he learn "mummy, poo poo coming, nappy please". If wee wees are working well this really needn't be an issue.

Have you tried him on the toilet?

If that doesnt work don't be too disheartened, I think this is fairly common. My DS hated pooing on the potty or toilet, would always wait till he had a nappy on at night. After a few months he just suddenly got it and happily went on the toilet from then on.

Oh and yes if no joy with the toilet I would encourage him to ask for a nappy in the meantime for the sake of your carpet!

When you say bribery is it an instant reward - a chocolate button did the trick with DD

Yea he talks really well but just refuses to sit on the potty. He said it was sore but I think he means uncomfortable! I can't reward him for pooing on the potty as he hasn't done it yet, but we did instant reward, sticker or chocolate or matchbox car! He's being really stubborn with this! I don't even think he'll ask for a nappy on as we have to fight him at night to get one on!

Same problem here. My compromise was telling DD she could have a nappy for a poo if she asked for one. This got her into the habit of at least informing me she wanted a poo beforehand. We then moved gradually from there - sitting down in nappy to do a poo firstly, then gradually trying to not put the nappy on

Glad im not the only one, I was worried I'd pushed him too far or started too early but he actually asked to have big boy pants and to use the potty!

My ds did this for a month or so. I let him shit in a nappy when he asked. I didn't want his anxiety worsening as it's very common to be scared to poo in toilet or potty. He then just pooed in the toilet one day. No big deal, unless you make it one

YouTube video "Poo Goes to Pooland". Works a dream (on toilet not potty). DD was the same and watching it on my phone whilst sat on the loo sorted her (along with a couple of mini marshmallows bribe each time!) within less than a week.... Try it!

This morning he pooed on his potty with no prompting or anything! Made a massive fuss and gave him a treat even though it was 7:45am! Phew!
