help!!!!! 4 days in potty training getting nowhere

Started potty training on Monday my 2yr and 10mth old boy. Made big deal about moving onto big boy pants, no problem made about accidents.
While he has done quite a few wees on potty (when I catch him at the right time) he has made absolutely no moves to instigate going on the potty or shows that he knows when he needs a wee. Plenty of accidents particularly this morning. Should I give up and try again in a couple of months?

Oh yes and he doesn't seem to be very bothered about being wet...

I'd Go back to nappies for a while,it sounds like he's completely not interested at all and to continue is wasting your time.

Are you me? We've been training my 2 yr 10 mth old ds for 4 days.
It sounds very similar to us, although my friend who work at a nursery says that thats normal and to keep going.
We are going to try not taking ds tomorrow and waiting for him to say.

Go back to nappies for a couple of months. It took three attempts for dd, then she cracked it in one day.

Day 5 now. Friend who is a childminder said this is normal and it takes time for some children to know when they need to go as long as he is getting control over his bladder that is great. He has gone hours this morning with no accidents. So progress????

my girl wasn't interested in potty till over her third birthday, but when she started, the transition was quick and just few accidents

leave it for now and try again in couple of weeks

Hi! I was the same as you this lunchtime. Today is Day 4 for my 2 yr 9 month old son and I was about to give up. Day 1 was great but accidents have increased and has shown no signs of signalling when he needs the potty. Also he was refusing to go on the potty when I suggested it and it was turning inot a battle of wills. I rang his childminder in despair and she suggested leaving him without pants or in loose clothing as much as possible. She says that's how they feel they're about to go. Whereas I was thinking it was more when they're wet they realise for next time. Tried it this afternoon and he realised he needed to go. Yippee! I'm hoping the weather is better tomorrow. He's still excited about his pants and can hold onto his wees so am really hoping I can continue. PS if you look 6 threads down I started a support thread - do join busby and melonribena!!

Now he definitely knows how to hold it and has mini accidents (just drops really) holds it into until next time I put him on potty. We are definitely definitely getting somewhere! Just need him to recognise the sensation and ask. Think will persevere for now...

Well done!! I'm a twin and my mum completely trained my sister before attempting to do me, said she couldn't consider doing it at the same time!!
We've had mixed success, lots of weed in the potty but not many instigated by ds. We also had a poo in the pants today too!
How about you?

Melonribena we are pretty much there on wee anyway. Day 6 and we have a 'tell' he pulls on he willy when he needs a wee and only one mini accident yesterday (we are at a fun day so not really surprising). He is now so proud if his wee as well and helps me take it to the loo. Now hopefully can start moving the potty out of the living room! No poo in potty yet, he waits for nappies...

Well done busby! I think my ds is very similar in his tell as well, he holds his willy. We will get there!

Melonribena sounds like our ds's are scarily similar! Glad you are making progress too. Hope all still going well for you too always a laugh to be had.

My dd was very quickly able to "hold" her wee and provided we took her to the toilet regularly didn't have many accidents. That was a year ago and she has only just at 3.5 started knowing when she needs to go.
I'd give it to the end of the week then wait a bit if he isn't telling you he needs a wee. Don't be me and go through a year of accidents.
