Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to post this but my DD, who was 1 earlier this month, keeps doing something strange. Each time I go to change her wet nappy, as soon as it is off she crawls away from me and then does a poo in the corner of the room! It is driving me mad and is getting pretty messy.

I realise she's too young to potty train, but does anyone have any experience of this. Is it just a little phase she's going through? TIA

Sounds like she's decided that she doesn't like to poo in her nappy which is understandable and she's realised that she can have control of her bowels which is a good thing I think! Why don't you sit her on the potty as soon as you take her nappy off and hopefully she'll poo in there? We've been sitting out DD (now 16 months) on the potty since she was nine months and giving clear poo signals, most of her poos have been on the potty for a while and she often wees on there too, we're not aiming to potty train her as such yet but offer her the opportunity to go somewhere other than her nappy and get to know a bit about controlling her bodily functions. She likes sitting on the potty, we read stories and sing and don't make a big deal either way about whether she goes or not, just say 'oh, you've done a poo/wee' when she has.

DD1 went through a phase of doing this at about this age. I just popped her on the potty, and she pooed. Much cleaner.

A couple of months later she went back to pooing in her nappy. She didn't use the potty again for another year.

Thanks all, really helpful. I'll have a go at sticking her on a potty and see if she'll go there sometimes. Matriarchal does your little one let you know if she needs a poo or a wee?
