8pm. Beloved daughter in bed - after 2hrs of "Poogate" - which has dominated us for days and comes in waves

She is 3.2yrs old - great potty trainer - and then got constipated, got pain pooing, now we are in cycle of dread, delay, refusal point blank standing body rigid "i will not poo" is her motto

Tonight whilst standing on the steps by the loo with the comfy padded seat - she stood rigid " i will not poo" and the pood on the floor as her body was desperate to

She hadn't finished the bowel movement - i went in with the potty - again body rigid standing "noooo" whilst pooing at the same - i literally had to hold her down onto the potty

not healthy situation and uncomfortable for us both - She totally knows this and is very verbally expressive and knows what she has to do - she is just refusing to to do it

I have had the Health visitor - we're on lactulose and just started movicol - i am trying to remove the "pain" assoc to make it fast and easy
the whole cycle has got us all stressed out of our mind - desperate every rational attempt not to get caught up

We tried going back into nappies and just wait for a while just get her comfortable - but the HV advise was get of them and just try all bribery, bubbles "Poo goes to poo land" - Phone Games, I-pad games ANYTHING..

Its hell in here - and her mood pre-poo sucks the life out of all of us

Obviously like everyone when she has a bowel movement she is sunny creature of delight and charm

I cannot wait for this to be over & wondering abouta Child psychologist to support her and us

Has anyone used this

Or should i just have a glass of wine when i get home - probably end up on the wine for months on end

aaaagggh.

Not sure about child psychologists though I am actually studying Psychology at the moment. I can see where you're coming from, a bit of toy based role play with a professional in that sort of area may really help.

Obvious question but what's her diet like? If its heavy in carbs like pasta, bread, breakfast cereal etc. then this could be a reason for her to be constipated. Did you know that for every gram of carbs you eat, your body needs 3 x as much water to digest it. So if you don't drink enough water, then your body will struggle to shift through what you've ate and the poo will be hard and dry.

I'd suggest cutting down on your daughters carbs for a while since its hard to get a 3 yr old to drink more water than what she has the stomach for. Good natural laxatives are pears, bananas which have amylase that help digest carbs, fruit juice (not good long term as too sugary and can cause infant diarrhoea but that's not a problem for you at the moment), anything with LIVE probiotic cultures like yoghurt or kefir as these also aid digestion. Even crack open some probiotic capsules and sprinkling it in milk or stir into readbrek or whatever wouldn't be a bad idea.

On NHS you won't be seen by clinical psychologist until she is about 6, as most problems eventually resolve themselves. For constipation etc as butterfingerz says diet is probably a large part, especially in this heat. Maybe try orange juice ice lollies as a less threatening way to get water into her, OJ is also a laxative. I would ease off on the potty for the moment until the constipation and fear of poo passes, maybe get cheapo pants etc. Also as an alternative just sitting straight on a toilet, with some support from you, or a family seat, ds just perches on the side of normal toilet.

She won't be like it for ever, like anything, it will pass.
