Hi all,
DS is 2.10 yrs and has been potty training for about 3 months now. He pretty much always stays dry during naps and overnight and when he is told to sit on a potty he will usually do a wee or poo if he needs to go. However one thing he will not do is tell me when he needs to go. He has literally done this about 3 times over the last few months.
At home and at nursery he is in pants and is taken to the potty frequently. However if you don't manage to time these visits correctly he will just wet himself. He doesn't even try and warn you that he needs to go, he just lets it happen. This means he usually has between 0 - 3 accidents a day. If you ask him if he needs to go he will just deny it and then wet himself two minutes later.
I really don't know what to do next. I thought by now he would have enough awareness to let me know he needs to go. He clearly understands what a potty is for, and has the bladder control when he is asleep, but just not the awareness during the day. I put him in pull-ups when we go anywhere other than nursery as I just know that otherwise I would be dealing with constant puddles and wet clothes.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there something I can do to help him crack this? Should I admit defeat and put him back in nappies (I'm reluctant to do this)? What next??
