Potty training

Struggling to get going

I have a quick question about potty training. DS is 2.10 and recently says he wants to sit on potty. Yesterday and today he'll take nappy and trousers off and then keep saying he doesn't need a wee, and nothing every happens. Eventually it has got to lunch time or nap time or whatever and we've put a nappy back on.

Now I'm working along the basis of 'wait for him to be ready' but if he shows any interest in it all I've been going with the flow.

He seems vaguely interested in it all, in particular the nappy free side, but not so much in the doing anything in the potty toilet side of things.

Any advice, suggestions, anyone been in the same position?

Everyone says 'wait for them to be ready' but I'm not sure what I'm waiting for Confused.

What should we be doing to help him? I don't want to discourage him from showing any interest in potty / toilet?

Thanks

I think perhaps you should bite the bullet and stop using nappies in the day - it sounds like he probably is ready.

My DS, 2.9 has been doing exactly the same, saying he needs a wee, sitting on a potty and then nothing. I think I was waiting for him to wake up one morning and say "Mother, dispose of the Pampers, from henceforth I shall be wearing pants" Grin Anyway, it was pointed out to us by his nursery that he was ready and so we went for it today and it's gone really well. Turns out he was ready after all!

Anyway, my advice would be buy some pants, some chocolate buttons as a reward and go cold turkey. Good luck!

Thanks Phoebe. Oddly I was talking to them at nursery about it today and they thought probably not quite ready, although he did voluntarily sit on the potty at nursery when his friend went to the toilet (nothing happened though). We have pants all ready to go but I think I might leave it a couple more weeks and just see if he makes more progress? A few successes would be nice before we go completely Hmm?

Can't remember if I said in my original post but I am slightly worried that he is holding wee back while nappy free. Mind you j suppose he can't hold it forever and if I keep putting him in and out of nappies then he has something to hold back for iyswim.

Oh, it's late, I can't sleep and I'm rambling..... We have a couple of long car journeys coming up over the next few weeks so might leave it until after those and then I can be around the house a bit more....

Thanks anyway xx

Hi biscuits. My ds Never sat down to do a wee. He was far too busy. I bought a little step for the toilet and these monster googly eye thingies that go inside the toilet bowl. Ds loved trying to shoot them. They just float and dont flush so they won't block the loo. I found potty training much easier after that. Grin

oooh they sound good. And even if he does sit down now (who knows - I'm hoping one day he'll do something...... we've got to teach him to stand up eventually!

I'm off to google.....
