2.10 yo will only use potty naked, what to do?!!

DS1 told us around a month ago that he was a big boy so wanted to wear pants not nappies, I thought great!

The problem is when he is in pants he basically starts going then says 'I need a wee wee Mummy' goes on the potty and finishes off - the majority of the wee goes in the potty but he does enough to nee a change of pants each time.... We ran out of clean pants last week so as we were just at home and it was warm I left him with nothing on and he was fab! On the potty for all wees and poos with no prompting or accidents at all. Carried this on for a week and all was good, tried again with pants today and ecerytime he's needed reminding and a change of pants!

Do I just persevere with the pants for a while longer and he'll get there eventually?? Or let him have nothing on at home so he gets so used to using the potty all the time and retry with pants in another week or so?

Go with what works, who cares if he's naked at home? He'll get the hang of it eventually. Don't worry, he won't be going to school naked.

Thanks, we will carry on as we are. It's such lovely weather it's fine to be naked, he's quite a fan anyway so at least now he's learning something new at the same time!

I was going to start exactly the same thread this morning as currently dd is wearing just a t shirt .

Just like your ds, she has no accidents until clothes are put on her.

Also, she likes the potty in the front room (fortunately not carpeted) as our bathroom is rather dark.

so not very hygienic [sigh]

just nice to know not alone with this!

Ha, our potty is in the front room too!! It's hard to be patient don't you think as you know they can do it just for some reason protest about the clothes??!!

My dd is the same! Luckily it's been quite warm recently. She will happily wander round in a dress or skirt or no bottoms and take herself to the potty for wees and poos and tell me when she's done it but if she has knickers on she either takes them right off or wets them/wees thru them into potty lol! If she has trousers on she wets herself. If i put her in a nappy she never says she needs a wee just does her business in the nappy. I tried taking her out with no nappy and got put off as she weed in the middle of ELC! I'm thinking of sending her to nursery in pants tomorrow as don't feel right keep putting her in nappies to go out but i reckon she'll have accidents. Hard isn't it? She's my second aswell. Just have to keep going until they get it i suppose.

Mixed day today.

Poos everywhere this morning after a good few days, one on the stairs, one on the floor, one in pants-all in the space of 20 mins when I was getting dressed and ds ready for school! She was upset though, so I' m hoping she'll still be keen to try tomorrow.

Wees fine though, she coped with 2 hour long outings with no accidents and fully clothed! One accident in pants this pm though.

Next week, am thinking about moving the potty to the downstairs bathroom.

Some progress here aswell. I put her in pants for nursery and she had one 'accident' but that was only because her clothes got a bit wet as she left it a bit too late before getting to the potty. Other than that she used it 3 times. Also went out without a nappy but she just weed before and after she went.

Not wearing pants when you first start is quite normal. dd2 used to run around naked all day and then put on pants to go to bed. She only stopped taking all her clothes off to do a poo when she started school.
