Pain in anus during period

Gross subject I know but I can’t find anything out about this other than a lot of scary information about endometriosis.

It’s my first period since childbirth 9.5 months ago, I’m still breastfeeding which is odd but non the less it’s a period!! I have the copper coil fitted which I have been told can make your periods heavier but I wasn’t expecting the excruciating pain in my anus!

I had a 4th degree tear as a result of the birth and the pain I’m feeling now is worse than it was when I was first healing. It feels like when I tighten my pelvic floor the pain goes away but when I relax, it’s like something heavy pressing down inside.

Has anyone any idea if this could be just down to the coil? Or should I get checked out for endometriosis? Has anyone with a fourth degree tear experienced the same?

I dont have experience but I'd get checked. It could be a simple pile which is very painful but easily dealt with.
If not then at least you are getting g checked and can move forward.

Apparently there is something that mumsnet have named javelin arse.
Not sure what it is but someone will be along in a minute.

I have endo and had the famous javelin arse as I had a massive chunk of recto-vaginal endo scar tissue. Had it removed during my second op (first surgeon couldn’t find it) and haven’t had problems in that area since.

I’m sure it could be also be down to the tear though, presuming you didn’t have this symptom prior to the pregnancy? I don’t have one of those as no kids (bastard endo). Definitely get your self looked over.

Welcome to endometritis.

Go see your gp as it can get really fucking bad

MountainDweller I didn’t have this prior to the last pregnancy/having the coil fitted. First time I’ve had anything like this, I feel the pain in the part of me that tore. Unfortunate as it brings me right back to the trauma that accompanied the birth/tear. Just when I thought I had escaped.
I will go to the docs although I think first thing I’m going to do is get this coil removed and have a period and see if it happens again.

I have different injuries to you but I get a very heavy aching when my period is starting too. I think the area becomes slightly engorged around your period and I feel my cramps in my underneath pelvic bones now rather than my uterus. Joyous.

20+ year endo veteran here - "knife up the bum" is my default setting. In my cause caused by endo in the pouch of Douglas (space between womb and rectum) but scar tissue in this area from birth could cause this pain too. Definitely speak to your GP. My endo is so much worse since my twins were born
