12 weeks since giving birth

Firstly I’m sorry about this as it’s gross information but I gave birth vaginally to a healthy baby 12 weeks ago. I bled up until 6 weeks heavily as most women do. I am currently on my first period and it is so heavy! Worse than when I’d just given birth! I am filling a maternity pad up hourly and I can feel it gush out when I get up from laying or sitting down. I went to the doctors this morning and she said if it gets worse to call for an ambulance, Has anyone else experienced this? I’m leaking so bad, it’s literally going everywhere! Thanks all

I thought if you're breastfeeding it slowed down or stopped your periods? I ff but first period was heavy but not like that. Go with ur instinct x

I was told you didn't get your periods while breastfeeding, I'd see a doctors. May be normal but best to check it out.

My period started when my baby was exactly 3 months old and I'm breastfeeding and its been fairly regular ever since. Mine was a little heavier than normal and 7 days long rather than 3 days.

I got my periods when I was exclusively breastfeeding! (In fact, mine came back 6 weeks after I gave birth... and then were regular again after that).

BUT if you're bleeding that much, it sounds like it's not normal for you for a period, and maybe you do need to go in to A&E if it gets any worse.

It's a total lie that you don't get periods while breastfeeding, within a month of lochia stopping I had a period.

It was a very heavy one, but I don't think it was as bad as yours. The first day I filled pads every 2-4 hours but then it settled down. If it's that heavy I would suggest calling 111 and see if they can make you an out of hours appointment so you don't have to sit in A&E. If they won't then you will have to head to A&E, either on your own or by ambulance.

Do you have any pain? smell? I would worry about retained placenta? My period didn’t return until my baby was 12 months old

I'm currently having my first period since giving birth (6/7 weeks ago) and I'm having a horrendously heavy , painful one too. The kind I had as a teen and really suffered with.

Whilst I can't tell you if what you're having is normal (I'm not a doctor) I just wanted to reassure you that heavy bleeding isn't unheard of.

A friend of mine had this and I kept telling her to call 111 but she wouldn't (she's a nurse! ) and it settled down, she was fine. Nothing wrong with calling 111 for some advice though
