Hi all,

Relative newbie here. Know this has been posted in the past so apologies but could do with some advice or just support from those who may be going through similar. my DD is 6weeks old. She luckily sleeps a 5-6 hour stretch at night now. I’ve struggled with sleep on and off throughout my life and it has re-emerged with a vengeance. I can’t usually switch off with DD next to me so I try to sleep in spare room or on sofa, neither of which are particularly comfortable. I’ve been able to function on 4-5 hours of sometimes broken sleep per night since her birth until last night when I got no sleep a time all. The HV said I had post natal anxiety and as a natural worrier I’m dreading the nights even more with the stress of not sleeping. Feel so awful and anxious today. Is anyone going through similar and can recommend self help techniques or remedies? I do all the usual stuff....daily exercise, hot milk, reading, getting up after half an hour, sleepy tea, deep breathing, but it isn’t working lately. DP says im too fixated on this routine after I have put DD down and I should just get into bed but then i can hear her gurgling even through earplugs and am often wide awake from trying to settle DD which can take a couple of hours! I have some zoplicone from a docs appointment 3 weeks ago which I have not yet used as I am scared of getting addicted! Not sure what I’m after....just advice or support if you are going through similar? Thanks for reading x

Could you try and play a white noise app loudly all night, we do this and it drowns out her little noises, think it sometimes sends her back to sleep if she wakes, and some adults really find it helpful to soothe to sleep? I had same issues as you but only for a week or so affer birth where I was processing the magnitude of what had just happened (having a baby).
I never have tea or coffee after midday, due to past insomnia issues
