Hi there,
I'm a university student and could use some help from all the mothers out there!
I've been doing a bit of research online about new mums and how for a lot of mums the first year after childbirth can often be a daunting, scary and lonely place. The average mother would describe the first year of her baby's life as chaotic, tiring and stressful.
A study conducted by 'Nurofen for babies' asked 2000 woman different questions about their lives before and after motherhood. The study found that more than half of new mothers felt a major knock in confidence in the first year because they felt they had no idea what they were doing. Many mothers wished they had a manual, more help or instructions on certain aspects of motherhood.
So what I'm asking you mothers out there is if somewhere like your local library were to have a night, maybe once a week, where new parents, parents to be, and just mothers in general could come and speak with each other over a coffee or tea, share knowledge and understanding, ask questions, share fears even, in a safe environment. The added benefit of a library being there would also be childcare books which you may have found helped you and could be recommended to each other.
Would this be something you would be interested in taking part in? I'd love to hear feedback, both positive and negative. I'm also open to opinions or improvements you may feel could be made.
Thanks :)
