A few button-pushing moments. Plenty of optimism. Nice dig at Labour for booing Tony Blair. I rather enjoyed it. smile

Didn't know it was on. What did he say? Any good news on the economy? Did he drop mention of the Big Society?

claig Wed 05-Oct-11 16:55:03

'Nice dig at Labour for booing Tony Blair'

but isn't booing Blair popular with the public?

claig Wed 05-Oct-11 16:58:43

or are the Conservative Conference audience Tony Blair fans?

CogitoErgoSometimes Wed 05-Oct-11 17:24:24

I'm sure the Daily Mail will transcribe it in full for you claigy smile He had a nice line in it about how Conservatives are proud of their former leaders unlike Labour who boo theirs. Referring to the reaction at the Labour conference when Milliband said 'I am not Tony Blair' and there were some boos from the audience.

I don't think the phrase 'Big Society' was actually used but there was a big call to arms... wants business to provide more apprenticeships etc.

claig Wed 05-Oct-11 17:28:54

I shall look forward to tomorrow's Daily Mail smile

Missingfriendsandsad Wed 05-Oct-11 18:10:36

This speech was bollocks world and national finance is NOTHING like household finance. And for the record DC I would pay off all my credit cards and hosehold borrowing immediately if I had your income you FUCK

Missingfriendsandsad Wed 05-Oct-11 18:10:58

blush

crazynanna Wed 05-Oct-11 18:12:09

He was told to take the "pay your debts" bit out.

SauvignonBlanche Wed 05-Oct-11 18:13:25

I was wrong about DC...

...I didn't think it was possible to hate him anymore but after that 'speech', I do.

said Wed 05-Oct-11 18:19:42

I'm definitely going to rush and get married after that speech though

claig Wed 05-Oct-11 18:22:10

Well it looks like Cogito enjoyed the speech and it had a somewhat unfavourable reaction from some usually objective MNers.

claig Wed 05-Oct-11 18:26:55

'A few button-pushing moments'

that is starting to look like an understatement

claig Wed 05-Oct-11 18:33:33

'He was told to take the "pay your debts" bit out.'

I thought he was the Boss.

usualsuspect Wed 05-Oct-11 18:40:18

I hate him even more after reading that speech

crazynanna Wed 05-Oct-11 18:41:35

Obviously not,Claig wink

claig Wed 05-Oct-11 18:43:14

smile
I think this thread should be pulled. It is clear that people have been listening to the wrong speech.

claig Wed 05-Oct-11 18:45:56

I haven't heard the speech, but to be frank, I'm rather dreading what is in it, going by some of the reactions.

DrNortherner Wed 05-Oct-11 19:25:15

I didn't vote for this clown and his puppets. He is a fucking moron.

He has no idea what it's like for the average person on the street, where a half decent salary doesn't last the whole month, people are working hard and having benefits and pensions eaten away. And how dare he say the Tories are the party for the NHS when they are in the process of dismantling it? angry

DrNortherner Wed 05-Oct-11 19:27:36

check out (hash)torytunes on Twitter. Hilarious.

jackstarb Wed 05-Oct-11 19:30:25

Claig - it was ok. The Blair moment was quite clever (and got a laugh). He probably said enough to satisfy the Tory members, whilst trying to communicate with the wider electorate. Safe to say he wasn't targeting the Mumsnet 'constituency'. smile.

"I don't support gay marriage, despite being a Tory, I support gay marriage because I'm a Tory" was another good one.

Cameron could do better. But given Miliband's effort last week - maybe he doesn't have to.

DrNortherner Wed 05-Oct-11 19:33:06

And so he bloody well should support gay marriage.

claig Wed 05-Oct-11 19:36:04

Phew, thanks for that jackstarb. It sounded like the Tories had cooked their goose by that speech, and there was no way back. It sounded like he still had a mountain to climb, judging by the evaluation of MNers. grin

LoveMyGirls Wed 05-Oct-11 19:39:35

Well said Missingfriendsandsad !!!

We are trying to pay our debts but the rising cost of everything is making it fucking tricky! Twat - DC!

dreamingofsun Wed 05-Oct-11 20:00:45

thought the bit reported on the news about paying off your debts was a bit rich, considering they are about to make my 2 youngest massively in debt due to hike in uni fees. And I'm a previous staunch conservative voter. who do i vote for now?????
