Allowed by who?

There's no official standing to godparents is there? My godfather died, and my godmother's new husband told me he was taking on the role

i ment 'allowed' by the church. i wanted it to be official in some way. the godmother i chose lives 12 miles away and hardley ever sees my dd. obv i knew this at the time, but since the chritening, she has not given my dd a birthday card, or made any effort to see her. she is child free and we have grown apart as friends in the last year, as i just find it too hard to get to her as we both work. i have another friend who i see nearly every weekend, she is excellent with my dd and really thinks the world of her, as my dd does my friend. she is only 2 and is a fairly clingy child and can be quite difficult, but my friend helps me in hard times, and i just wish i had chosen her instead.

Don't know about the church. Ask your priest perhaps?
