DS1 is nearly 5.

7.30am on the way to school "Mummy when we die do we come back again to Earth?"

"I'm sure Darling that there is a chance that you will come back again".

"Can I try it?"

He is fascinated by how we live, breather etc and apparently now he is fascinated by dying! Oh good Grief - it's too early surely to get into this?

Wehave never hidden anything from the children - if they ask a question they get a straight answer where do babies come from etc etc. I'm not sure though the right way to go about this one.

Can anybody advise please??

Explain that you would miss him if he did and that he would miss you to as it might take a long time and that if he came back to earth then it would be in another place away from you.
If this fails then explain how he needs to live a long time before it is his turn to die and then(if it's what you believe and want him to believe)come back.

Are you christian? I tell my DS that while he will live forever with Jesus in the end, right now Jesus has a very important job for him on Earth, loving and being kind to all God's people.

there are good things in all these posts pea

my personal belief is that young children are very interested in death and dying and what happens afterwards. when people talk about only having one or two soulmates this is true, what i also believe is true also, is that just as in life on earth, we have a group of friends and the best of those friends a re known as soul mates.

although i'm not inyour shoes as yet with my dd, she is a very sensitive soul and i know i have mnet her before btw, i think i may have answered something along the lines of "when it is time for your body to die, it is like an overcoat and you won't need it anymore. you can come back as someone else if you like" altough maybe that mite be touch complicated too. see if stg is about, i'm not very clear tonight
