and how can you live one while having a 'normal' C21st life (with the occasional glass or 2 of wine!)??

Zola I think its about treating your body with care and paying attention to how you are emotinally, spiritualy, physically etc . Being mindful of what you do ,think, feel, say and behave. Its about paying attention to mind body spirit. Wether that be with the food you eat , to the kind of sleep you get , to how you treat others. I think its about having good self awarness. This takes time to learn and its often just about going with the flow of things. I.e. knowing when something is bad for you and doing something about it.

Everything in moderation ; wine is good for your blood cells , chocolate has good chemicals in it , a LITTLE salt help you absorb water and not dehydrate. I suppose also having a balanced diet all the right minerals & vitamins etc.

Great idea for a new thread on here Zola, havent seen much going on on our board of late.

I know what you mean, a good definition...The problem I've found in the past has been recognised when I'm getting out of balance and knowing when & how to take action. It took 2 weeks on a holistic hol for me to realise how unhealthy in all sorts of ways I was being and to take action. Now, post-hols want to keep the momentum but not always so easy. Exercise & organic healthy food currently helping though, just hope I don't slip again!

To me it means recognising that all actions relate to all others and as Melsy has said to ensure body, mind and spirit are in balance inshort it means maintaining a congruence between all areas of life so you are always true to yourself a little bit of what you fancy (food wise) is usually good for you. Have you tried recogising your cravings

These are good definitions. In addition, I think you need to look at your body/life as a whole and if you have problems in one area of your body, look at other areas and look at your life in general to see what may be causing it, rather than just seeing a physical symptom as just an isolated problem. Hope that makes sense!

I find it very hard to put the holistic lifestyle into practice though.

Zolapola, I'm interested in your holistic holiday, can you tell us more?

a Holistic life sounds like a perfect ideal...
to me it's being true to body and soul.. treating the body with health wholesome foods, and the soul to some sort of spiritual enlightenment.
Would love to go on a retreat

Hi CQ -went to Skyros - a holistic centre on a beautiful, isolated Greek island (of the same name) - it's a world heritage site and
feels a truly spiritual place - the poet Rupert Brookes died there, pagan-like goat festival still v important on the island, lots of temples & classical reminders - refs to Achilles etc..I found the combination of a simple, natural day-to-day life and regular qi jong/yoga/meditation/work-life balance classes
calming and an eye-opener in terms of how out of balanced and stressed out I'd been. Met some great people too and had fun, heartily recommend it! but still struggling to keep a bit of the Skyros magic in my daily home counties life (and commute into stressful London job)!

ZolaPola sounds like you need to visit our vision home on this board. It is our online holistic retreat centre and sure that the whole island Skyros could be fitted in!

When you said that you meet great people there... well our vision home has afew of those and it a good place to chill out and commune, do yoga etc.

You are most welcome to come and imagine with us!

I just bumped it up ZolaPola.

For me I guess a holistic life goes beyond just doing yoga and eating good foods. To try and constantly eat well and live well could be a stress in itself so I feel balance is important and making sure life is enjoyable.
It is like others have mentioned about your internal attitude. For me that is trying to lift myself above day to day activities to see the overall actions and movements of my life. I also try and be aware that what I do reflects upon other people and be mindful of that.

I'm virtually drifting by starlight now....may float back later, enjoy Skyros!
