Can anyone please suggest a good children's Bible?

DD will turn 6 in a few weeks, and one of the things she has asked for as a birthday gift is a children's Bible.

I've looked in a bookstore, and on Amazon, and as there are dozens of versions available, it is a bit overwhelming. Can someone please point me toward one you'd recommend? Or at least help me narrow it down a bit? Thank you.

This one is absolutely superb. Its great because its a proper bible, but the translation is for 6-12 yos. My 7yo loves the fact she can read it herself (although prepare for awkward questions...! ). The pictures are really lovely too!

childrens bible

When I got it for her, I showed it to our vicar, and he ordered a set for our newly formed Sunday club.

They also do a youth version for older children.

The only thing I would say is that because its a proper bible, the paper is "bible thin".

There is a Graphic Bible (I think published by Lion) which is basically the Bible in comic strip cartoons. My ds really loved it.

See if you can find a Precious Moments Bible. The illistrations are sooo sweet and it comes in pink. I had one as a little girl and I loved it.

Thanks so much for these suggestions. Will search for editions mentioned on Amazon, and at our local bookstore.

Any other ideas would be welcome too.

Fauve, the last time I checked the Graphic Bible was weirdly out of print and changing hands for £££ on Abebooks. Ds has now exhausted the charms of Bible Baddies (not recommended for your dd Earlybird ) and I was hoping to get him a Graphic Bible.
We have the Storyteller Bible too, it's excellent Earlybird. A proper Bible is a great gift, but my two are still a bit exuberant with books for that sort of paper to last long.
And dd is currently entranced by the sentimental old-fashioned charm of the vintage Ladybird story Naaman and the Little Maid.

We have a 'Beginners Bible' which is very good, our kids all have one and they love it

we love beginners Bible and Lion Storyteller Bible - but DS got fed up with hearing stories at church that were not covered by those. We bought him an INternational Children's Bible - as Mary recommended, ha is really pleased with it as it is the full Bible - he was nearly 6 when we bought it for him, and so far it is in fairly good nick 18 months later.

Amazing, Marina. I can't put ours on Abe, though - it's too popular! Surely they must do a reprint at some point.

yep Bethron - DS has exactly that one. The Hermie version is the International Children's Bible text, with extra commentary, which DS likes.

More suggestions - thank you one and all.

Interesting that several of the ones recommended are no longer in print, or cannot currently be offered by Amazon. And £60 for the Hermie Bible! I see that it has alot of pages, but goodness that's dear! What else can you tell me about it? Amazon only shows the cover, and I'm afraid I'd need more information than that to consider investing at that price point...anyone able to elaborate on why it's good, and what makes it worth that much money?

I paid about £12 I think in a small Christian bookshop for the Hermie Bible. I wouldn't pay £60, no way (although he Bible I use is about £30)

Hermie Bible is the International Children's Bible text - same as the Bible MaryBVS linked to, but it also has commentary pages and some explanations which DS finds useful. The ICB text is good, because instead of asking rhetorical questions which children may not understand it couches the same idea as a statement.

Amazon.com have it for $24.99. so you could order it from America. I regularly do that with some of the reference books I buy!

I suspect it is £60 because its difficult to get hold of, so it is worth shopping around.

The straightforward ICB bible that MAry linked to would be excelent too, just not got the commentary with it - and after all it is accessible text that you want.
