Help to buy a bible

Im due to start my RCIA course in September and want to start reading the bible.

I dont know what one to purchase for the catholic church. Ive checked online and there are so many different kinds available

I'd contact the priest delivering the RCIA and ask for reading advice. Us Catholics are not very bibley, so he may well recommend or give you something else.

Good idea to ask the priest for guidance about things to read.

As far as a Bible goes, you will need a Bible with the Apocrypha ( so not Good News or New International Version for example). I would go for either New Jerusalem Bible, which is widely used by Catholics or New Revised Standard Version (NRSV with apocrypha) as this used in several different denominations.

I like the New Jerusalem as it is very poetic and is also used for the lectionary readings in most English speaking countries, so most likely will be the translation you hear on a Sunday (if you are in the UK and Ireland). If you are buying online be aware of the size you are buying as you can get a version to fit in a handbag or an enormous doorstep size with every size inbetween! You might want to find a local Catholic bookstore for advice and a chance to look at all the bibles they have available.

HoneyandRum I love New Jerusalem Bible too. It's my favourite for my own reading though sadly not used in CofE
