Hello,
I have recently become an Athiest because I do not believe there is a "God" or "Diety" and this is the best I have felt in a long time. The world (in my eyes) is less complicated without religion and all the rules that come with it. I feel happy and liberated.

Anyone else feel the same?

Hey, I've been atheist fr a while but yeah I guess I do feel liberated. It makes me so sad to see people be miserable and angry and judgemental and discriminated against in the name of religion.. I'm sure without religion these people would find another reason to be hateful but I can't help but feel that lots of people would be better off without.

Simpler is not always the same as truer, IMHO. But glad you are feeling so good right now. Agree too that judgement and discrimination are the antithesis of my idea of religion.

Hope it didn't come across as an accusation! I was a practising pagan for many years but have lapsed (i've lapsed at quite a few things over the years). I no longer believe in god or gods or gods as aspects of one god. I don't tend to define myself as an atheist though if someone asks as it is usually taken (wrongly) as having no beliefs at all, which for me is not true - just not belief in any sort of deity.

I've always been an atheist. I just feel like me. Everyone's belief or non belief is 'true' to them. I'm a bit wary of feeling like I know more than others, that's when you start to close yourself off.

Hi, I've always been an atheist too, even in primary school I'd ask to sit outside during hymn practice as I thought the idea of God was ridiculous.

I went to a C of E school & was aware at the time it was all a pile of bollocks :)

I remember being very scared as a young child (8 years or so) because I couldn't cope with the fact that my conscious would cease when I died, leading to some difficultly in sleeping.

I went to a C of E school and my parents allowed me to go to Sunday School at my request (even though my parents are very agnostic (probably atheist), which I didn't even realise until I was an adult).

Even with the religious influence in my young life, I never made the connection between what they were trying to brainwash me with, and the (overly) logical thoughts in my mind. Maybe I am too stupid to be brainwashed!

One day, I realised that it wouldn't matter that my conscious would cease, because I wouldn't know about it (because I wouldn't be conscious), which was a great moment of freedom for me.

Someone I know is one of the 40 volunteers.

There is a facebook page for the experiment, but some of the comments from religious posters are rather ..... unsurprising!
