I have just given a home to a 1yr old staff.
She is lovely, we have had her a week now,.. she is walked 3 times a day, i am a sahm and the patio doors are always open so she has a free run!

The problem is she will wee and poo anywhere she feels like going!

This morning i took her for a 30min walk, we got in she had a wander in the garden then walked in and did a wee right i front of me!!

While i was cleaning that up she then decided she needed a poo.

Can anyone please give me some advice on how to stop her doing this?
Please.

Not sure how you stop it as not had experience of it myself, but think some dogs do this for a time when they move into a new home.

Bumping.

I think because she your doors are always open she hasn't learnt any difference between inside and out

If it was me, I would shut your doors and then just watch her really closely, she will start sniffing and circling when she needs to go, take her outside to where she can and then praise when she does. She will soon learn that indoors is not where to mess
May be more difficult than with a puppy though as she won't need to go as often.

You need to treat her like a new puppy and house train from the beginning. Shut the door and take her outside every hour. When she wees or poo say a certain word "busy" "be quick" etc and praise her like mad. Give her a little treat.

Eventually if yo are going out etc or in the car on a journery you can ask her to be quick first and she will perform. My dogs are better at this than my kids!

If she has done a wee of poo indoors you must clean up with a special pet cleaner you can get from any pet shop. Otherwise the smell of normal household cleaners is actually encouring her to wee there again.

Never ever tell her off is she does have an accident indoors. All this does is stress her out and make her want to poo and wee more!! Clean it up and ignore it.

She will get the hang of it soon. If she has been kennelled she has been allowed to wee etc anywhere so do be patience it can take a little longer with an older dog rather than a new pup but she will get there. Enjoy your new family member I love staffies!

Get a clicker. When she does her business in the approved place, click her as soon as she's finishing and give her a small treat.

This is a very quick way of making an association in a dog's mind. It has worked well with our 14-week old pup.

Thanks for all the advice, it seems that i may need to go back to basics with her then.

I sometimes walk a neighbours young dog ,she gets a good hour off lead , to begin with she was so excited by it all ,she forgot to wee and poo on the walk and as soon as i took her back she would go in the house .I found that if i took her back and put her straight in the back garden for 5 minutes she would have a good long wee and a poo and then my neighbour would let her in .

I think that might be half her problem bumpsoon, before we had her she was lucky if she had 1 walk a day 5 times a week,..
Now she get walk 3 times a day in some places that are scent heaven to a dog
I will try putting her in the garden straight after walks.

Just a thought, what are you cleaning up wee and poo with after she has done it inside?

If you are using normal bleach she could be able to smell the amonia (sp?)and thinking she has weed there before so can do it again. You could try getting some of the dog cleaning spray from a pet shop which stops them picking up any scents.

I have been using a solution of bio washing powder and lemon juice as i read this will not leave lingering scents the dog could pick up.
