Hi.

How exciting! We are also thinking of getting a dog not sure what age though! Would love a puppy, can I ask what age your dc is? As mine are 4 and 2 so not sure if getting a puppy is the best option for us.

10, 8 and 3.6

You may find it a bit of a handful with a 2 year old. Having said that, when I was 1 and my brothers 6 and 3, we got a puppy.

We've just got an 8 week old staffy cross shar pei and she's adorable. Had her since Friday now. My dc's are 7, 5 and 2 and a half and, so far, everything's been fine. She's very mouthy but that's to be expected and we're working on that. Good luck

We have a 21 week old bundle of cocker spaniel,he is black, white and tan and great fun and has a wingspan of 39 cm as measured by ds1 regularly .He has been fantastic from day one ,nothing seems to phase him and he loves cuddles!Very keen on digging holes and chasing flowerpots and is a complete cleptomaniac!

Have you discovered cockersonline the main site is down at the moment but the forum is fantastic and still open...everyone on it is obsessed with cocker spaniels!!Seriously though there is a lot of brilliant advice on there.

. we have a 15 month old lab who came into our family after months of wrangling over what breed to get. (mainly focused on lab or cocker with a few others making occasional bids). I thought I'd got over my cocker love (had one as a kid) but I went to a dog show a week or so ago and it was full of meltingly scrumptious cockers. we can't get one now as we're in a rented house that's fully open plan - couldn't cope with poos and wees on someone else's carpet. but perhaps when we are in our own home...

there are quite a few cocker lovers on mn

enjoy

I had a cocker as a child. When we were planning to get a puppy, the dog I had in mind was always spaniel sized. Then I had the chance (and missed out on) a lemon cocker spaniel and I realised that was I wanted was not spaniel sized, it was a spaniel.

The ears! The eyes! The waggy tail! [swoon]

I have no idea what to do with a puppy - I've not had one since I was 1! I have 3 weeks or so to swot up.

He is indeed called Dill. For 2 reasons 1) Dill the Dog from the Herbs and 2) Dill from to Kill a Mocking Bird, given the cats are Scout and Atticus

there are loads of threads on mn re advice for new pup-owners. they seem to appear at a rate of about one a week. everyone has their own book recommendation - mine is this one. really good - v. practical - got me training our lab on day one and it seems to have done the trick. (though it hasn't quite worked on dh...he still favours the theoretical stick over the carrot dog biscuit)

I also had a CS as a child ,actually a lemon roan,I had always wanted another ...no other dog would do .there is lots of good puppy advice on here and also on COL ,plus I have Gwen Baileys perfect puppy book which I have found very good.

Not sure how you post photos on here otherwise I would put one of Otto up!

See. I told hatwoman she should have got a cocker spaniel.

OMG. I'm v. excited for you. We have one too - he's about one and a half now. You couldn't hope for a jollier, funnier, more sympathetic, thoughtful, friendly dog, really. Such a good choice. We are all mad about ours - and he tolerates our dreadful interest with benign good manners.

I have him set as my desktop background [swoon] I had to wrestle him away from DS2 on the pretence that we had to leave. then we stayed another 10 minutes whilst I cuddled him.

Luckily, the owner will only let people take one each

We used to try to tie the ears of our childhood cocker behind his head to keep them out of his dinner with ribbon, not just themselves, I hasten to add.

Soupy
We had a Springer Spaniel and tried all sorts of hair accessories on her ears.

AGal
We have a Maltese Terrier (called Bichon Maltese in French so I assume close to Bichon Frise) She is actually crossed with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
