my sister has offered us one or two of her kittens.dh and obviously the dc are very up for it!but i dont know.we had a cat before but when ds2 was about 1 year old we had to give him away as he was very fluffy and it made ds asthma and ezcema fair up.ds has grown out of it so am not too worried about that now but am worried that we have busy road one side of house and fields at the back.our old cat alfie stayed in as a house cat but with 3 children i think it was bit unfair on him.so would a cat be safe out(i know most cats do go outside but i need to know how you make it safe, how you intoroduce it to them and how on earth you know theyll come back!).also boy cat or girl cat?

I would have as indoor/house kitten until 6 months or more, having a room/cupboard/area that the cat(s) can be/go that they will not be followed/fussed with so theyy have personal space

No going out until the snip has happened and then on a lead and harness letting cat explory the garden and also showing cat how to get back to the door, then if cat is calm after several days of this, i would let cat out before regular feeding time so cat will be eager to return for food, so rewarded for coming home.

Then maybe have cat in and out times, due to a busy road and local school our cats stayed in until 0930 with freedom to come and go until 1730 when they were fed and in for the night.

As to boys or girls or both, there are pro's and con's aplenty, we have had some brill lap cats and some snotty cats of both sexes but on average boys have outnumbered girls as lazy lap cats.

thankyou!great advice especially on cat going on.
also would i be silly thinking a kitten/cat would get on with our house rabbit?im thinking if its young it may think rabbit is another cat?
and would just one be ok or would it be kinder if it had a friend?

theyre adorable but.......i dont know!

No reason why they wouldn't get on.

2 of our cats used to sleep in 1 of the ferret hutches (sans ferrets) well except once but no fur flew they just sniffed and looked at each other

thankyou.i think if we do it willbe just one.(is that terrible?)because it will have rabbit as friend (hopefully) and i dont think i could stretch to expense of 2 lots of injections/bits being done/vet bills/food blah blah blah!
