Missing cat

Hi,

So our black and white cat (Bernard) went missing yesterday morning. A dead kitty was found 2 doors away from our house that was black and white and claimed by a neighbour who thinks the cat is hers. I've seen pictures of her cat and it is near identical to ours.. the only difference is a white stripe on Bernards back which another neighbour said was on the dead car found at the side of the road. I am going out of my mind worrying and i am 99% sure that this lady has claimed the wrong cat. I've tried messaging her but no reply which I understand as she is grieving. What can I do to resolve this? I really want to check the cat/take it for a chip check but it has already been buried in her garden. I know that I would know the difference between my cat and hers but maybe she was so shocked and upset she assumed it was hers. Should I knock on her door and talk to her about this? Or let it go?

What an upsetting situation for both you and your neighbour . Your neighbour is clearly convinced the cat that was found was hers - difficult though it is, I don't think there is anything you can do about the one that has been buried, unless her cat does reappear. It's still possible the cat that she found might not be Bernard - I would keep looking for him - I do hope he is found safely, OP.
