Cost of owning a dog

Hey!

I'm thinking about getting a dog, and I just wondered in general how much people spent every month on their dog? And the initial costs of getting a dog, how much does it cost in total to buy everything?

Thanks! :)

you need to consider costs for the following: insurance, food, vet costs I.e. Annual check up, flea and worm tablets, toys and treats and kennel costs if you need to use them if you go on holiday. Obviously insurance and food costs can vary depending on what you go for. Most insurance gets more expensive as the dog gets older but don't be tempted not to have any as Xrays and scans can cost thousands if you ever need to do them. Don't want to put you off but our 13 yr old is costing us loads now as he has arthritis and a heart murmur, all requiring medication which is regular payments on top of our now £53 per month - but we love him to bits and wouldn't be without him.

Monthly we pay a least:

£32 insurance
£11 heath plan (vaccinations/flea/worming/2 health checks a year etc)
£40 food
£15 treats
£10 for the odd lead, collar, bed, tags, shampoo, toys throughout the year

Also add on lots of dog walking clothing and footwear, especially for winter and rainy days.
