has anyone ever had a dog live outside for alot of the time? i know you can get some great insulated kennelsthese days.
thing is i want a dog but ds2 is allergic to some dogs.
if i took a chance on a non moulting type and it then still caused allergy i thought rather than pset everyone by having to rehome we could get it a kennel.

am i barking?
sorry if this is boring, i have asked similar questions already.

How allergic is he?
If at all possible try to find out what dogs are non moulting and see if you can find one for your ds to meet before you decide?
I personally don't agree with a dog outside on a permenant basis unless a guard dog and if you get a puppy who ds is allergic to it would be very unfair to put it outside in a kennel all the time at a very young age.
Nothing wrong with them being outside in a warm kennel for short periods of time but even on walks the dog will go near your ds so will that effect him?

ds seemed to be very allergic to mil german shepherd. he would come out in hives rash. he came up positive to animal dander in allergy tests a few years ago. i know they weren't bathed much and there was hair all over the house as she had 3 of them.

but, he seemed o.k with my friends poodle and also labrador.

we desperatly want a dog but i don't want to get one and then have to get rid as they would be heartbroken.

the problem is that they're such pack animals - it really would be unfair to exclude your dog from the pack, and would you really give him the love and attention required when the weather is uninviting, for instance?

I also don't think you could train a puppy that's not allowed inside - they require so much input.

I guess what you could try is find a reputable local breeder who i am sure would be very happy for your ds to spend some time with their dogs, to see whether he reacts or not.
