Anyone own a Border Terrier?

Are they a good family pet to have with young children? We had to put our lovely staffy to sleep a couple of weeks ago and really miss having a dog in the home.
I am at home all day and we are a walking family who love being outdoors. I do however have a young baby and a sn child so a highly strung or yappy dog would really do my noggin in iykwim
I don't want to get another Staffy as I don't think I could except a looky likey of my beloved old mate just yet.
I've always had a bit of a thing for Border Terriers since reading James Herriots books.Blush
Any opinions on this breed.

Hi Giddy, we had a border terrier when I was young (from about 4 years) and she was lovely. She never bit or nipped me or, afaik, my younger sisters either. She was very loyal, and once went after a dalmation that barked at me. I think they do make good pets for families with young children, but if I were you I'd speak to some breeders and do a bit of googling first before getting one.

I actually think they are lovely BUT....my Dad and SM have a pair (two boys)and they have killed two cats, numerous wild animals and bitten most visitors to their house.I have to say that I believe this wholly to be down to having two litter brothers and poor management. On their own they are gorgeous and despite it all,VERY protective of the family.
