Hello,
I've decided to collect stories from people living in Social Housing with the view to turn it into a book. The aim is to challenge the stereotypes associated with people who live in Social Housing.
I came up with the idea earlier this week after reading and responding to a number of posts regarding the residents of Grenfell Tower. While the vast majority were supportive, there were enough negative or just uninformed comments to make me realise that for some, social housing equates to crime, poverty, unemployment and so on. I am not disputing that this happens. Of course it does. I lived on a Council Estate for many years. My friends live in Housing Association accommodation. It is difficult to reconcile what is said about social housing tenants with the majority of people who are decent hardworking folk.
My big problem right now is finding contributors. I currently have 12 people but it’s not nearly enough and while I know them and I love them dearly, they are not a diverse enough group of people.
I should also point out I'm not an author. I'm not a sociologist. I am a housewife and mum and I work part time as an administrator. I am definitely not qualified to do this but I feel I have to do something.
I did consider putting an ad in the MEN but the trouble with ads is unless you're a tenant in council accomodation looking to contribute to a book, then the chances are it will get missed.
Please let me know if you would be interested in contributing to this project.
Many thanks
Adele
