To invite or not to invite...

Am probably overthinking this but here goes:

DD starts school in September 4 days before her birthday. There are only 3 other kids -all girls - going to her school and they have put them all in the same class.

She is friendly-ish with one of them, who came to her party last year. One she is not remotely bothered about (although we did get invited to her birthday party early this year but didn't go), and the other she doesn't know as they go to nursery on different days.

Given that they're all in the same class, my gut feeling is that I probably should invite all 3 of them if we're inviting the one girl she's friendly with - what do you reckon?

TBH would rather not but that seems a bit unkind.

If numbers are not a problem I would invite all three.

All three. I will have the same problem in a few years time.

Now I'm really confused. Spoke to a couple of mates today who thought it was OK to just invite the one DD is friendly with.

2 more aren't a major issue but we're having the party at home and doing it all ourselves, and we don't have a limitless budget.

TBH I invited one particular child that DD was really keen on last year who I didn't know. Her mum just dropped her off and went and she was a bit of a nightmare so it has put me off a bit.

Don't have to get invitations out for another week or two so will mull it over a bit more.

Only invite the friendly one then. I think it would be out of order to exclude the one you're not keen on and invite the one you don't know, but leaving them both out isn't so bad.

Does the 'one you don't know' know 'friendly one'? Just thinking how the friendship dynamics will play out when the start at school.

I def wouldn't just leave one out. It's either the one DD knows and is friendly with or all 3.

Think the one she's friendly with knows both the other 2 quite well though.

Perhaps it's best to just ask all 3 - given how many people didn't even bother to RSVP last year and the fact they don't really know DD they probably won't come anyway but at least I know I've done the 'right' thing.

I think you're right, that would be safest. It's amazing how difficult it is to put together a party list, it get's very political!
