I need the wisdom and inspiration of MN! What to buy for a FIL who has everything?

It's FIL's birthday this weekend and DH is v vv busy at work so present buying is up to me.

My FIL is so difficult to buy for because he is fortunate enough to have almost everything he could desire. We don't hav DCs yet so can't give him anything with pics of the grandkids and he's just so hard to buy for.
Best present reaction from us that I can remember was when we gave him a preloaded ipod.
Any ideas Mumsnet?
TIA

What about one of those experience days where you get to drive a racing car or a tank - or a balloon trip or flying lesson (if we are talking something ipod-style expensive...)?

Hi Snowleopard and thanks for that.
He really is v spoilt has done flying and motorsport and not sure tanks are his thing.
What I would really like to give him is an afternoon in our company at our house where he teaches DH how to use the drill properly and helps put up shelves. He does love to weld etc but somehow that doesn't seem like much of a present

He might like a lovely power tool then? Could MIL give you any tips?

If he's not expecting anything expensive, he might appreciate you making him a beautiful cake and/or birthday dinner? You could invite him for the afternoon and suggest the shelves as an activity incidentally...

Another nice pressie for sring/summr is a real panama hat, the kind that roll up in a tube - has he got one of those?

I am so skiving because I can't be arsed to work!

A Panama's a good idea, but also what about a Tilley Hat? They're great for all year round wear if he does stuff outside (my Pa wears his for gardening), DH just wears it when he's out!

How about cheeses from neals yard you can buy a package called cheese of the month - "You can have cheese sent to you or a friend at regular intervals throughout the year - a bit like a cheese club. Each selection is made up of 4 favourite cheeses for that month. We try to cover a range of styles and milk types so it makes up a varied cheeseboard. Total weight of cheese is approx 1.8kg (4lb). In each box of cheese, we include a 2 page pamphlet with information about the cheeses and their cheesemakers. "

YUM YUM

Yes! I have a tilley hat myself and they're great. They float if they fall in the water too - fab for fishing or boating.
