DH is going to be fifty - does NOT want a party, so what do we do?

We cannot plan a holiday or trip as in term time.

So any ideas? He enjoys sport, so are there any big sporting events in 2011 ?

Would a nice family meal be dull? Youngest DC is five, so several courses can be a bit stressful.

Any fab ideas?

Many thanks?

Get a babysitter and go out a deux to a really nice restaurant.

I did wonder about doing something with the children and then sneaking off without them? Maybe even overnight!!!

Nice family celebration at home sounds super.

Was worried that might be a bit mundane.

Well I was similar to your husband when I hit a Big Birthday - couldn't bear a thought of a party. So DH and I splashed out on a decent meal and I really liked it.
Don't know how funds are, but you could book somewhere michelin starred, to make it more of an occasion?

If you have willing babysitters and cash I'd take him away for the weekend, somewhere like Paris, Verona, new York grin

Travel tricky as term time. Funds available but not unlimited.

No idea about a gift either.

So hard with grown ups.
