Slings for a 1 year old + ?
He's too big for the baby sling but isn't anywhere near starting to walk yet, it's a ring sling i bought from ebay, but the fabric is thin and rough and it cuts into his legs when i wear him in hip/toddler position and he's heavy and i'm minature. We travel via train and public transport and so i need the sling on some occasions as the buggy is impossible whilst carrying luggage etc. I'd like something comfortable but not fiddly like a lot of these baby carriers are, something i can get him in and out of pretty quick without missing our stop at the station, i also want something where he's more hip supported (definitly NOT going to wear him on my back!)

Some of the Soft Stuctured Carriers can be used in the hip position, like Ergo (has a big MN following) or the Pikkolo.

They have buckles for ease of use, usually padded straps and are pretty light.

I had the Scootababy hip carrier which is not very well-known but i found it good for DS 1-2yrs old. It has a shoulder support so you can be totally hands-free, only two straps which you can adjust easily when on- only thing is that the child is not supposed to nap in it as there is no head support but it can be turned around a bit so child can rest on you more if they did happen to fall asleep.
