Reluctant sleepers

Our ds 6 month old twins won't go down in the evenings. They are shattered and falling asleep, but as soon as we try to put them down, they start performing. They have routine, a nap at lunch time, and lots of interaction and play in the afternoon, regular meal times, etcetc. I try not to let them get overtired, but to no avail.

They are put in their cots after their bath for a story, one will usually fall asleep nicely and the other then kicks off. Then after 3 hours of cuddling, stories some times more milk, they will give in to sleep. We have tried controlled crying which works on one. But just makes the other more aggitated. Any advice will be gratefully recieved.

you could try cutting out the story. it may be stimulating them when you want them to be winding down.

you could also try lowering the temp of their bath slightly. and letting them have a good splash around in the water before you take them out.

A slightly cooler bath will lower their body temps and make them more tired. Much the same affect as swimming has on grown ups.
