If I leave DH, will DS's schooling suffer?

I've just been looking at houses in our area and I reckon I could get one in a less desirable area despite me not working. My issue is DS and his school. At the moment its just a short bus ride away, if we moved to the area I've just been looking at, it will be quite a distance (but still do-able on bike/bus). I've read threads on here from people who have DC's travelling miles and miles to school so would it really be an issue?

I'm sure he'd be happier if it was just me and him again anyway, despite the school issue!?
Moving school is not an option.
