3 month old has diarrhea but won't take Diarolyte

14 week old DS has diarrhea and GP has prescribed Diarolyte. Problem is - he refuses to take it in water only (does not like water). I formula feed - can I give it to him in his milk?

How long has he had if for?

Diarolyte doesn't stop diarrhoea, it just replaces the electrolytes lost when someone's had diarrhoea for a few days.

He has had it for 3 days. GP says it is gastroenteritis but if diarrhea continues tomorrow must send off sample for testing.

It doesn't mention anything in the drugs book that I have about mixing it with milk, just to discard any unused solution. The amnount that your baby needs is 1 to 1.5 times his normal feed to be made up with cooled bolied water. You should call NHS direct to be honest, dehydration is a concern as he's had diarrhoea for three days and isn't taking the solution.

No, it shouldn't be given with milk because milk is more likely to be thrown up and thus the replacement fluids lost.
We always have to give ours 5-10 mls every 5 minutes in a syringe (holding him down, in between screams) to prevent extra vomiting.
But if yours isn't vomiting. I refer to the time I had to give mine meds in 20ml quantities and he refused them as they weren't formula in a bottle. I gave him the 20 mls in a bottle and this he seemed more able to tolerate without spiting it out and screaming at the top of his lungs.
