Can anyone recommend a good book explaining the facts of life/body changes, etc for a nearly 9 yr old? Nothing too detailed or graphic.

we have the boy version of this book
He's 10 and has just started looking at it... he switches between giggling and being horrified but hey at least he'll
be prepared

I got my dd1 the girl book that Ingles2 just linked to there.

It's very good - gently explained and as you say, nothing too graphic or detailed in a scary way.

She's found it very iinteresting and it's helped her to formulate own questions too, rather than me bombarding her with info. It's been the start of quite a few girly chats and she knows we can talk at any time about anything.

Actually this has just reminded me that dd2 is now probably ready for this too. Gosh don't they grow up quickly? I feel I only packed the pushchair away 5 minutes ago.

Same book, dd had it when she was 7 thanks to a misguided attempt by a schoolfriend to explain the facts of life. Bum. will, peeing . It is a very good basic book that will probably open the door to more in depth questioning of you

I second the 'What's Happening to Me' that Ingles posted the link too. It's really good, although DD is just 7 and we've not gone there yet.

She did ask me the other day though about how the seeds actually get from the daddy to the mummy's egg. Sigh. Had got through 4 years since was pg with DD2 until we've had to tackle that question. I explained they came from daddy's willy (much guffawing) and quick description of process (very quick ... and basic). I remember my niece having a really good picture book that described it quite nicely in a funny way. Anyone remember that one???

Just googled and it is Mummy Laid an Egg. Perfect for me, not perfect for 9 year old.

The BBC website recommends: For nine years onwards: Let?s Talk About Where Babies Come From, by Robie Harris, published by Walker Books (approved by fpa)

yes I got the boy What's Happening to Me for ds and the girl version for dd (they then promptly read each others too).

I read them and found them good. I like the pictures and everyone growing to have different sized breasts and willies and balls .

Most informative books for this age group!
