DS had it a little while ago.

I think we had to put his drops in 4 hourly during the day. In the end it was so much of a fight I started doing it at night while he slept, just set my alarm, I did have a tiny baby too so up alot anyway. During the day I would just give his eyes a wipe with cool boiled water on cotton wool

You have my sympathies. DD had conjuntivitis and it was a nightmare getting the drops in. There's no easy answer.

I think drops get in even if the eyes are shut so persevere at putting the drops in even if she's screwing up her eyes. If she's lying down at the time, some will go in when she opens her eyes.

good luck!

Hi,
My DS has had conjunctivitis twice. The second time someone told me to think twice about the eye drops and to google the name of them. I can't remember what it said but it was enough to make me bin them, very scary links with serious side effect illness.
I then just scrubbed my hands, used sterile cotton wool, cool boiled water with real sea salt (meldron or similar). Rinse one eye from inside corner out and bin cotton wool then do other eye same way. Keep doing this every 3 hours or so all day and even when she is asleep and I promise it works. Little slower than drops. DS's eyes were literally glued shut so don't think it won't shift even a bad case.

After my DD had three doses of conjunctivitis and antibiotic eye drops, I suggested to our practice nurse that she was having an awful lot of antibiotics in her eyes, she agreed and I tried salt water solution as bevlin describes. I agree that it worked very well and pretty quickly.

Had a hell of a job getting any of it into her eyes though.

That's good to know. Next time DD gets it I'll try salt water.

But obviously backtrack hastily if that doesn't seem to be working, Rosa.
