DS broke his leg falling off a climbing frame last Wednesday (it wasn't very high, but he caught his foot in a curly metal bar going round a fireman's pole as he fell). We're lucky it's only a fracture, not a bad break, but he'll be in a cast for the next 4 weeks. He's got crutches but they're slightly too tall (I think they're the smallest they make: 4' to 4'6") and he's been reluctant to use them so far - I think he's scared of falling.
So, no running around, no playgrounds, and worst of all, no swimming (we have just moved to Singapore, where swimming is the main thing that kids do). I also have a DD (19 months), so it's hard work getting around. I've just hired a double buggy, so at least we can go for 'walks'. DS has had moments of getting upset about being in the cast, but is being remarkably patient with all the sitting around.
So, has anyone been through this and have any words of encouragement? Or ideas for ways of coping and things to do?
