I'm thinking this could be handled better

DD (aged 4) pleaded with me to get her some new pyjamas so I did and she seemed pleased with them but hasn't worn them yet.

She's worn all her normal ones (long sleeves and legs) and they're all dirty and short ones are the only ones she has in her drawer including these new ones.

She is REFUSING to wear any short ones, inc the new ones, saying she doesn't like short ones.

She sweats profusely at night which is why I got her short sleeved ones.

We've had a monster tantrum for the past hour about it and I don't know if I should just give in and give her a dirty pair of long ones.

Is it horribly unfair of me to make her sleep in something she hates? Will it teach her any kind of lesson?

How should I play this?

No way should you give in now not after an hour, it will make it far worse next time as she will know the longer she goes on the more likely you are to cave.

I would say ok no pj's and send to bed in pants then if she asked for pjs give her the option of new ones or just pants.

it's not about making her sleep in something she hates this is just tantrum, today my dd tantrummed because I wouldn't buy her something from a shop, I didn't have the money to buy it I couldn't give her what she wanted no matter how much she cried or asked nicely I couldn't give her it end of story.

You can't let her wear dirty pj's to bed and especially not after she has cried for an hour, if you give in to her now next time will be twice as bad imo. She can't be far off giving up now, I think she is over tired and that's why she has kicked off and the best thing to do is to calmly explain the 2 options, if she won't choose she goes to bed in just pants.

my dd also tantrummed to wear her dirty/ wrecked trainers the other day, she was going to grandma's (who likes her to be well turned out and had brought her the expensive shoes) so I said no they are dirty you are wearing your shoes, she carried on so I put them in the washing machine.....then there was no choice, she realised this and she put her shoes on, maybe you could put them in the machine so she see's there is no choice?

What about bribing her with a barbie princess nightie (or whatever she is into) if she wears the short ones tonight?
