Just how much do YOU get involved with TIDYING UP your kids rooms??? (age 10+ please!)

am just curious....as it seems i am spending so much time and energy argueing about their responsibility to keep their spaces tidy...that any 'happy family time' is lost in the process....we were a happier bunch when tidied up properly once a week...and helped/supervised EVERY evening for just 10 miutes to keep things fairly ordered.

my boys do like me helping...and if i do it...in a week i probably spend 2 hours...however...if i don't we probably spend at least 3 times that nagging...checking...argueing...moaning...etc

At 10 plus nothing, old enough to make own beds and use a hoover and dust and put away things in the correct order.
I'm sure they do like you helping but by not helping you will be doing more good in the long term.

Maybe a little reward or treat if they do it all by themselves without you having to keep checking up on them.

my 11 year old DS can change his own bed, dust and hoover his room. i get him to do it properly every couple of weeks and change duvet weekly. if i am having a cleaning spree i go in and give it a mum clean, but thats only if i have spare time and i cant go in the garden

My DS's room badly needs a purge (of outgrown toys, books etc) and a clean. Much as I am tempted to just do it myself it really has to be done by him with me helping and supervising. I have bought some new boxes and things to help and that is how we will be spending at least part of our half term [sigh].

On a daily basis I expect him to put away toys, clothes (back in cupboard or in laundry basket) make his bed, NOT leave his stuff lying around downstairs in the sitting room etc.

I agree with you about the nagging tho', it is harder work doing that than just doing the tidying up yourself! It has to be done though.
