Evening, and happy mother's day. Have not visited for a while but thought I'd try and see whether you may be able to advise about what I c an do to get my little one to sleep a bit later in morning...or not come in to us so early.

DD has habit of waking at 5.30/5.45 and is not a consistent thing but goes through periods of weeks doing it.

Amount of sleep/no sleep during day does not seem to matter, warmth fine, only thing left is to put up black out curtains in herc room (she moved out of cot in to another room about 6 months ago).

Any tips?

When my DS goes through phases of getting up mega early I twll him its still bedtime and he needs to go back to sleep. I then try and ignore him and do not get up until atleast 6.30am as I cannot get up any earlier, its unhuman and the phase passes in a few days. DS has black out blinds and is 3.5 by the way, we have not had a phase like this for quite some time (thank God).

perhaps she goes through spells of not being particularly tired. Does she sleep much during the day? Maybe you could put back or reduce her afternoon sleep so that she's tired enough to last the night when bedtime comes. My ds stopped daytime sleeps at 18 months because of this - he'd go to sleep fine at bedtime but would be wide awake at the crack of dawn. We dropped his daytime sleep to 20 mins after lunch and he slept right through again.

My DD is the same. Trouble is she needs her daytime sleep so early because she is tired by about 10/11am. How old is you DD Corrin? Mine is 18mths.
WCL - mine continues to shout if I tell her its not morning! So still no more rest for us
KT - interesting that cutting sleep worked. I read that if they have their sleep too early in the day then they are overtired by evening, go into deep sleep straight away and then wake early. So I was reluctant to cut down daytime nap and make her tireder at night. However she does sleep am rather than pm so I suppose thats worse. Can't keep her up any later though, she is knackered by late am.

We do NOT want to hear that Fostermum - that is still goes on at age 7!!!!! Please reassure us that it will stop at the magic age of 2 or something!

helen I know how you feel

look at it this way... there's always somebody worse off than you... for the first year my dd never slept longer than 2 hours even at night

helen - don't worry - if you look at old threads - all the little ones go through this phase of the 4am waking. It does get better (slowly) - it takes them a while to last much longer than 4am with out being hungry. My ds used to sleep through 13 hours till about 5 mo and then started waking looking for milk. At least when he woke at 4 - he'd take milk and then go back to sleep for a couple of hours. Now he wakes between 5 and 6.30am and then theres no chance of him going back to sleep.
