She is 2.5 ,she takes great delight in picking her nose showing us and then eating it [barf]. I have told her no ,I have said it's dirty I have even given her a hanky and showed her what to do but she finds it funny .It is making me sick and embarrased when she does it on the bus /in the shopping trolley etc etc

any advice please???

Im not sure if she will be too young for this but my DS (3 at the timem) was doing this and I explained this to him....

"DS, you know when you smell a HORRIBLE smell......like dog poo or rotten eggs"

"yeah??"

"well the nasty smell goes up your nose and gets all stuck in your snots to stop the germs going in your body"

"ok"

"so if you pick your nose and then eat it, you are eating dog poo and rotten egg germs. eurgggh isnt that horrible"

"urrghghghgh I dont want to eat dog poo"

"horrible isnt it, you need to blow your nose and get rid of the nasty smell germs, not eat them"

IT WORKED!

could she be doing it just because she gets a response from you? might be best to just not make an issue of it?

my dd puts food up her nose and then takes it out and eats it [sick emoticon] but then she is only 14 months so there is not really a lot i can do or say just yet!

Oh it's only nose picking. I'd just ignore it.

God by that heading thought it was something really bad like eating poo or something, she is only picking nose, dont comment on it at all as it only makes it more interesting.

Bloody hell, if this is the reaction she gets from something as harmless as nosepicking no wonder she takes such delight in it.

Louii, Aitch, Slubber and Seashells all spot on.

ds does this - picks his nose, eats it, then declares "mmm, delicious - green!"

I can't get worked up about it I'm afraid - he'll grow out of it

ExterminAitch · 23/07/2008 11:53

lol miaou.

She's definitely doing it to get a reaction I would say.

Ignore it - she'll either stop doing it as it has no effect on you or just grow out of it.

Snot really isn't that bad you know

He says the same about my cooking though, Aitch

My DS (2) does this too. But what really offends me is when he picks his nose while on the boob, then delatches to eat snot, then pops back on to wash it down.

Iv'e never tasted my breastmilk, and I've never tasted snot, but I'm pretty certain snot tastes worse

At nursery they tell him it'll make him ill, and hand him a tissue. It does seem to be working, but slowly

Clean her nose so that there is nothing to pick.

I read an article that people who pick their nose and eat it are healthier than those who dont.
Here it is, enjoy

dd does this.

worst thing is she has a tendancy towards blood noses anyway and her rootng around up there has caused 4 this week alone

dd 'mommy, i got bleeding again'
me 'o dear, let's get a tissue. were you picking your nose?' (blood on tips of fingers has already answered this question)
dd 'no'
me 'sweetie, you know sticking your fingers up there makes you bleed'
dd 'i don't want to listen to you!'
me 'dd it's dirty up there, you'll make yourself sick'
dd 'no!'

[sigh] i give up at this point

I would ignore it

It isn't as bad as a bloke I used to know who used to put his tongue up your nose if you annoyed him

now that was gross

Report
Morloth · 23/07/2008 16:15

Another snot miner here. But now as a 4 year old boy he thinks all things gross are wonderful and does it on purpose to make me react.

Won't hurt her, its manky but kids often are. The mantra "stop picking your nose" is that of parents everywhere.
