An end to the Mommy Wars.......please!!!

("Mummy wars" sounded too Egyptian!)

In one corner we have working mums, in the other corner SAHMs, in the middle we have a giant catfight about "quality time", amount of money spent on toys, SAHM's letting themselves go, blah blah blah.....

Well it is all a crock of crap. Each family situation is different and why do we have to categorize ourselves anyhow? Some people work part-time so are a bit of everything, some people are childminders so work from home. We are all mummies and we all work, whether it is in the home or outside from 9-5.

Will you join me in my quest to call a truce and respect that each mother is darn well entitled to work as much or as little as her financial situation or wellbeing calls for?

A mum is a mum in her childrens' eyes
I was a SAHM mum for a while - DS loves me
I went back to work - DS loves me

PAX matres (or did I just order a pizza there?)

That is ridiculous. Running a house can be harder than office work - I have done both and had a job where I was at work ON THE INTERNET LOOKING AT SITES LIKE THESE all day cause I was so bored, now I only get on twice a week.

BTW I don't have time to watch TV or listen to the radio, I am busy cooking, cleaning, going out with baby etc

There'd nothing to talk about, MN would be too dull, we only do it to keep ourselves vaguely occupied....everyone sensible knows it's an indulgent conceit to keep on arguing to toss but hell it passes the time....

It's an argument I can't have anywhere else (because in RL everyone I know is too busy running their own lives to worry about mine) so no way. I need more arguments!

I am a SAHM and I haven't been reduced to watching Radio 4. Yet.

Report
Goober · 10/07/2008 13:54

I would not judge either as I couldn't give a monkey's arse what Nice People do during the day.
What's it to you if somebody wants to sit on their butt all day, or if somebody else doesn't get to see their DCs until it is time for bed???
I am concerned about my family, not yours. You tend to find that judgy types don't have a lot going on in their own lives, so like to watch others.

'SAHM sitting on bums all day doing nowt' seems (a lot of the time) to be a blokes misconception about how easy it is to be a parent.
I work full time, DH is self employed.
I get DS ready for bed, all is OK
DH gets DS ready for bed - 'tis WAR

,,,,,,,,,too busy cooking cleaning - cooking cleaning
i work all day then cook and clean

all i can say is - you SAHMS can't be doing it right if you have to spend all farking day doing it...every day.

Noooooooo, we NEED the sahm/wohm mommy wars or we will have to argue over things like bf/ff instead...... and that's far worse.....

No I am not new here WS, just a normal, rational, educated woman who thinks that life would be easier if women stopped judging each other so harshly

Goodness only knows we already get judged harshly by men, a) we work but have flexible hours/occasionally need time off for sick children and so get knives in the back, b) we "sit at home all day" watching TV blah blah blah.

Didn't realise that you had a job Custardo as you seem to be here all day! You must be:
a) the boss
b) have a very cool boss
c) have a boss that is clueless

what's that got to do with the price of eggs. Maybe i am unwell, or have the day off today, maybe i am at the library whilst studying for my PHD in elecromachanicaltimetravel. after i have looked after my kids, cleaned house ( not hard) and worked all day.

maybe i am sat at the side of a turquoise pool, where the cool breeze just tempers the heat of the sun. The waiter bringing me Long Island Iced Tea whilst i surf the internet.

i can afford to after all - i work
