Why do people see you have a baby and ask "is she good?"

I HATE this question!! I think it is rediculous to ask if a baby is good/bad. She is a baby. She sleeps, eats, pooes, cries etc.

My DD isnt the easiest of babies and still wakes 2-3times a night, cries alot, feeds alot and I have problems with her not putting on weight etc.

BUT I would never say she is "bad" - She is a baby ffs!

Does anybody else feel like this or is it just me? I know its to make conversation but surely there are better questions? ie how much does he/she weigh? or something! Or eve, oh, what a cute baby.

it's just one of those old-fashioned questions that gets perpetuated. People aske because that is what they were asked and so it oes on and on.

It used to wind me up too along with "are you feeding him/her yourself?" (to which I always wanted to reply "no, I'm just passing him/her over to any random passer-by to feed")

They don't really mean to suggest that babies can be bad; believe it or not, they are trying to be nice, they just can't think of anything specific to ask and don't want to offend you by asking the wrong thing.

They don't mean anything by it, and getting irritated about it is no good for your blood pressure at all! Let it wash over you; they mean well.

I know they mean well, I did say I know it is just to make conversation. I just think it is the most rediculous question you could ask about a baby
