5 Year Old sort of snoring whilst awake?!?!

Bit of an odd one.
5yo has started to make a strange snoring/gentle snorting sound… while she’s awake?!
Was wondering if anyone had experienced this or heard of it??
I’m finding it hard to see if it’s just a new strange behavioural habit, or maybe a health concern??
Thanks as always!Smile

My 3 year old has been doing this since he was about a year old. He had his adenoids out recently (along with tonsils to treat sleep apnea) and it's gone away.

Hmmm... they haven't shoved anything up there have they? I'd be tempted to get it checked

Could be their adenoids? Do they sound bunged up as well without any obvious snot? If so, that sound like adenoids to me. Both DD & I have had them removed and can breathe more easily as a result.

Or possibly snot from hay-fever? Toddlers also tend to mouth breathe when they're concentrating hard on a task - that's why they go suspiciously quiet.

@Kdubs1981 no nothing shoved, or as far as I’m aware! No pain or anything that she’s mentioned.

@1stWorldProblems yes pretty much so! No snot, but sounds almost phlegm-ish?? Especially on the in breath. We just did some reading for school and it was quite apparent then too.
I’m thinking a trip to the doctors may be best, better safe than sorry anyhoo!
Thank you both for your input!

When my 4 year old began to do this, I did get it checked by the GP and it was his adenoids. The doctor is happy to wait to see if he outgrows it as my son doesn’t seem distressed by it. I notice it more sometimes when he is a bit anxious though. Sounds sensible to get her checked.

@ButterfliesFlyingBy it’s seeming like it’s probably the same thing to be honest! She’s the same, I don’t think she’s mega bothered by them. Just think if it was me it would get annoying! But I suppose kids are v easily distracted! Grin thank you for sharing x

Could be allergic rhinitis, or infected adenoids, etc.
