Reflux / CMPA or behavioural???

Hoping someone can relate and offer their thoughts as I’m going crazy... Confused

DD now 20 weeks, been through the hoops since 1 week old... ‘colic’, reflux... gaviscon; omeprazole... then peadiatrician thought CMPA so now on a hydrolysed formula.

However - 4 weeks into new milk, things feel like they’ve gone backwards. Initially she was a different baby, and after a feeding aversion we were thrilled she was finally drinking again! But now / fussy as anything again, cries all the time, constantly uncomfortable, legs always in the air still, and has recently taken to actually SCREAMING the house down now her lungs are bigger Hmm

I’m a) so frustrated and feel totally trapped and b) concerned that there might be something more to this. Behavioural, perhaps? Or something more than ‘just reflux’. As if it was, surely the combination of omeprazole and special formula would work?!

I should add - she regurgitates quite a bit now. Rarely used to, we was always silent reflux, but for last month + she’s been regurgitating too. It just feels like we’re spiralling and no one can seem to help us!

Xx

It doesn't sound like behaviour is the cause to me, she sounds in pain.

Just wondering if you've been referred to the Allergy Clinic yet?

She hasn’t. We saw a peadiatrician about 4 weeks ago now who suggested CMPA and prescribed the new milk. We then spoke to a feeding specialist that suggested she was on the wrong brand of milk so we switched to try the one she recommended, and some new feeding positions and tactics but still doesn’t seem to have resolved the problem

Looks like we maybe need to go back to peadiatrician and get more help. I’m convinced now it’s her reflux playing up - I can always hear the milk moving about inside her, and her yelps in pain are awful x

Should also add - she doesn’t have any rashes or skin irritations which is why (I think) people have been reluctant to help more, and keep suggesting ‘she’ll grow out of it’

Hydrolysed formula is often not enough for full on CMPA. You might want to try amnio acid formula. We finally got it at 6 bloody months. My DS did not willingly drink milk unless asleep until 8 months, and no solids beyond 1 puff every few days until about 18 months. Now at just over 2 years old, he still needs formula at night to keep his weight up... He did become quite tolerant of solid dairy over the last year, but he won't touch cows milk.

The magic combo for us was alfamino (stopped the constant projectile vomit and constipation), omeprazole (stopped the pain), and Rowena Bennett's aversion plan when we got the physical problems in hand.

Good luck x
