I have a 9 month old baby boy and feel like I should be doing more with him. What's your routines with your little ones? We had a great routine before which included lots of baby classes, but now they have all shut I am struggling with ideas with what to do with him!

A few ideas -

Messy play

Hiding toys in jelly
Spaghetti
Cornflour
Shaving foam
Cheerios blended up to make sand (pretend beach play)
Coloured Yoghurt for painting

Play related to stories

Hungry caterpillar/Handa's surprise- exploring fruits
Goldilocks - stirring porridge oats playing with wooden spoons etc.

Mine loves a random selection of household items eg sponge pastry brush spoons cups mirror rubber duck etc to explore

Mirror/shiny objects play
Disco ball/light up toys create a disco
Musical instruments playing along to carnival music
Floating and sinking using the baby bath

Lots of messy play with pasta and paint in a zip lock bag with paper inside (they can squish it till their hearts content without the paint going everywhere). I also use to stick lengths of sticky tape everywhere and my DD thought it was great fun finding them and pulling them down. Lots of reading and nursery rhymes, getting pots and pans out with wooden spoons for her to bang. A nice long walk to see the ducks or feel some trees and grass. And when I was exhausted at the end of the day, a bit of The Wiggles on Netflix so I could have a breather - its like crack for babies!

@becca3210 these are great ideas and I would love to try them, but do you not worry that all of this will end up in your baby’s mouth and/or swallowed? Anything my baby touches just goes straight into his mouth, and I wouldn’t want him eating Cheerios, jelly or shaving foam!

I don't mind if mine has a taste of the spaghetti yoghurt or the Cheerios as they are edible and he would only have a small taste. I would follow what you are personally comfortable with though.

Or you could put things in plastic ziplock bag so they can squidge but no mess

Cornflake sand
Dry noodles
Angel Delight powder
Dry cereals

Baked beans
Mashed potato
Cooked lentils
Tinned spaghetti

I have a baby living with me who is orally defensive and tactile defensive, at 9 months old we are still trying to start weaning and these are some of the foods we are playing with. We are starting with dry things and will eventually move to the more challenging wet/sticky stuff later.
