Are the solid food poop and constipation poop pics correct on this website?

My DS did a poop today that looked like the constipation one and I just wanted to confirm that it is indeed constipation and not a normal poop

Generally speaking if it's squishable it's fine. More important than the consistency of the poop is your baby's behaviour. Was he uncomfortable? Straining? In pain beforehand?

I think there should be a poo in between their solid food and constipation poo picture where the poo is formed but still soft.

@Ohalrightthen he was straining a bit (went red in the face and I noticed a tear from one of his eyes) but wasn’t making any noise, so I don’t think it was too painful?! What’s worrying me is that he’s only pooping once every 3-4 days, despite being on 2 solid meals a day now. His last poop was Saturday.

Are they still having plenty of milk and are they having water with meals? What solids are they having as some cause constipation more than others?

@dementedpixie he’s on 800-840ml of formula a day. He tends to have porridge with puréed fruit for breakfast and then something like blended chicken, veg and potato for lunch. This morning I gave him a prune pouch for breakfast though to try to get things moving, plus some pineapple and melon pieces as finger food.

I think the big issue is water. I’ve tried all sorts of cups but he just doesn’t seem interested at all. He’s probably having about 20ml a day, 30ml at most. I even tried giving it to him from a milk bottle in desperation, but he wouldn’t drink from that either! I don’t know what else I can do?!

I had a look at that, and DS’s poop didn’t seem to fit any of the images on the chart..! It was kind of wedge shaped!

BTW he’s always been formula fed on the same formula, so there’s no change there...

Sounds like plenty of milk which counts towards fluid intake too

That’s true, it could have been!

Does milk count towards fluid intake then - which means I don’t need to stress too mush about the lack of water issue?

Yes milk counts as fluid as its mainly water
Mine liked the tommee tippee first cup for water but only took a few sips at a time to start with

Thanks @dementedpixie. Should I be worried about the frequency of the pooping (3-4 days)? Maybe when I increase to 3 meals a day he will go more often? How long did it take your baby to get the hang of drinking water?

If he was in pain whilst pooping would he be shouting/crying? The fact he had a tear roll down his cheek whilst going makes me think he’s straining quite hard

Pleased to say we’ve had a bit of progress today - after yesterday’s poop he did another, runnier one earlier! I’m just hoping these more frequent poops become a regular thing now!
