3 month old outdoor swimming?

I am a first time mum so excuse my complete cluelessness. Would you take a 3 month old baby to an outdoor swimming pool if you could keep them in the pram for most of the time shaded, with a quick splash in the baby pool with a uv sunblock long sleeved swimming costume and hat?

Yeah i would, and did when dd was that age.
Just make sure you have towels and extra layers for when the come out the pool

I probably wouldn't bother with a 3 month old.....but it depends on context.....

  • if you were meeting friends and family at the pool and you wanted to go. Then taking baby will do them no harm.
  • if you are paying an extortionate amount of money to go to a pool for the baby....they will be as happy with a bath at home.

Thanks both. Yes meeting a friend at the pool - am desperate for a swim! It’s a London lido so they probably won’t have much shade but I have taken him on walks in the pram with the hood up and he has been completely shaded

I'm going to say no - too humid. The hood may provide shade but can actual trap heat. My son at that age was in a rocker chair at ground level with fan on in this type of heat - my health visitor agreed this was good. Maybe if you arrived early?

Last summer we signed our 3 month old up for parent and baby classes in a (heated) outdoor pool - we are also in London. He loved it, us less so as it rained during some of his lessons, hehe.

They get cold RIDICULOUSLY quickly though even at the height of summer so take plenty of towels/layers. We had minutes if that to quickly get him out of his wet gear and into some dry clothes - he screamed until we did, but when we were in the actual pool under the water then he didn't cry at all.

Haha - I’m pretty sure it will finally rain tomorrow after having waited for aages for the weather to break. Good for humidity not for me!
