My baby's poop

Hi all. My baby is 5 months old and exclusively breastfed. I have another child and he was also EBF and his stool, I remember, was soft and seedy and yellow for as long as he was EBF. This baby has a different kind of stool and I wanted to see if anyone else had this (I did speak to the HV and she thinks it's ok, but I wanted to talk to other mums). Basically his stool is not just loose, but very watery, yellow, not seedy, and sometimes there's a bit of slime in it. He does a poo 1-2 a day (which I fine and is not a concern). It's mainly the consistency that I find strange... it's so loose that very often it goes up his back. Also it's very strange that it's not seedy. Any has any words of wisdom? Thank you Smile

Hi @bunny85 no words of wisdom, just a bit of solidarity. My baby's pooh is very slimy and not seedy at all, this was preceded by blood in stool though at 12 weeks and then a bout of diareah. He's now 17 weeks and we have been urgently referred to the paeds. It was suggested it may be an allergy I've now been dairy dfree for 4 months with no change. Its so stressful, but your baby's pooh doesn't sound as bad as mine. Could be worth contacting gp though?

Thank you Rubyroost, I'm sorry about your baby's diarrhoea. I hope the paediatrician will help eliminate the cause of it. I might give my Gp a call today.

My baby was ebf. His poos were always green - like spinach. When I got it checked out the GP said baby poos can be a range of colours and consistency. As long as there wasn't blood and he was feeding ok & well in himself then I shouldn't worry.
May be worth a chat with your GP to get it checked though.

This sounds just like my baby’s. The Dr arranged for a stool sample to rule out any virus or infection. The health visitor says it’s quite normal in breastfed babies.

My little one is otherwise fine and growing well so I guess it’s just the way his poo is.

You need this!
A breastfeeding counsellor I know made this gallery to show the range of normal poo for a breastfed baby.
Your little one sounds totally normal!

@RockCrushesLizard I know this was probably meant for the op. But thank you, as this is helpful for me too. X
